Executive Committee Nominations

President Nomination

Mary Burton

I have enjoyed an association with Flyers through Jamie's membership for over four years and have been constantly amazed by the dedication and commitment of the athletes from the junior level through to the national level. I have previously worked on the general committee and have undertaken compiling and editing the newsletter. I love what the culture of Flyers brings to our kids outside of the performance and coaching areas and would like to be a part of strengthening this during the 2012/13 season.

My professional career has been primarily involved in corporate values and leadership training and facilitation. I currently own and operate a registered training organisation and a training consulting business which works with clients in australia and new zealand. I have worked with small and large teams to deliver outcomes through improved communication and establishing common goals and believe I can bring these skills of business and facilitation to the role of President.

Graham Howgate

In my role as a Head of Year and team leader at a local secondary college, I work with both adults and children on a daily basis. I love working as part of a team, but also realize that all parents have the skills and knowledge to contribute to making the Flyers a successful club. As a parent of two teenage children I believe that I do understand the needs of all swimmers and can work successfully with their parents and coaching staff to ensure that all members enjoy their time at the club and that the swimmers are supported as they strive for their personal best. As a PE teacher with 20 years of experience I have developed a passion and enthusiasm for all physical activity. Helping young people work hard and chase their dreams provides me with immense satisfaction. Swimming is a great sport. Flyers are a great club, but can become even better. Coach Alex is building a squad of swimmers to break into the State Top 10. As President, I look forward to working with the committee to help the club’s coaches achieve this goal. I believe in the qualities of hard work and integrity. As adults it is our responsibility to encourage and nurture young people to fulfill their dreams to become the best that they can be. I see my role as being a custodian of the good work that has gone before, and seizing the new opportunities that arise. No one swimmer is more important. All deserve our attention, commitment and support. A successful club is a team of people working together to meet the aspirations of young people. I know I possess the ideal background for leading the committee and believe that I can continue to oversee the growth and development of Mornington Peninsula Flyers Swimming Club.

Vice-President Nomination

Rick Howe

As the parent of two keen and active swimmers, I have had close up exposure to all aspects of the swimming journey over the last five years; from 1/2hr learn-to-swim lessons through junior and senior squads to National squad participation (with all the hours of pool time and dryland training that entails), not to mention the competitions, from encouragement meets and school swimming carnivals through to State and National titles.

I have also been able to devote some of my spare time in my career to a number of sporting and volunteer organisations, holding directorships, committee positions or organiser roles with Colleagues and Newport Rugby Clubs (in Sydney), Kings Swimming Club, Pt Leo SLSC and The Dolphin Research Institute as well as providing volunteer assistance occasionally here at Flyers with occasional BBQ duty and running timekeeping for club meets.

With over 25 years’ experience in senior executive roles in companies large and small, my career has also provided me with some very relevant skills in effectively managing people and projects to successfully deliver on goals.

I would now like the opportunity to use some of those experiences and skills to the benefit of this organisation. Consequently, I am now nominating for the role of Vice-President and look forward to helping to lead an inclusive and successful club in 2012/13.

Thank you.

Rick Howe

Belinda Van Der Linden

Hi my name is Belinda Van Der Linden, for those who don't know me, I have two children who swim with the club. They have been members of the Flyers for approximately 4 years. Within that time I have seen many changes and have seen the flyers grow and develop into the club it is today. I am running for Vice President and believe with my communication, organizational and leadership skills I have a lot to offer the club. If elected I will look forward to working closely with not only the President but with all committee members, and together as a whole I believe we can continue the development of this club. Helping each individual reach their full potential and in doing so take a step closer to reaching their dreams. I strongly believe communication is one of the key aspects of being a successful club and if I am elected to Vice President I will ensure that each and everyone is kept informed. We have a great club and if we all work together we can have a fantastic club. Thank you for your time.

Yours Belinda Van Der Linden

AGM & Presentation 19th May

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Please remember to mark your diaries with this date as it is a very important evening for the Flyers Club where we reward our athletes for their achievements over the past season and also nominate a new committee for the 2012/2013 season.

A number of our committee members have already indicated that they will be stepping down and in fact all positions are open at the start of each season. If you would like to be a part of the committee whether in a executive position or a general position, please feel free to complete a nomination form and place it in the club mail box or hand it to one of the coaching staff.

Again, this club cannot function without parent assistance and especially if you feel you can assist in any way or have suggestions on how to improve the club we would love for you to join the Club Committee as apposed to the Parking Lot Committee Laughing
