Our Policies
At Flyers Swim Team, we are wholeheartedly dedicated to safeguarding children, young people, and all our members. Our aim is to make swimming a positive, safe, and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
We uphold the highest standards when it comes to child protection, following both the updated Victorian Child Safe Standards and Swimming Australia’s Child Safeguarding Policy. These guidelines reinforce the shared responsibility within the swimming community to foster a culture where child safety is paramount.
Flyers Swim Team has embraced the Swimming Australia National Integrity Framework (NIF), which is designed to identify and address risks to child safety and to embed child-safe practices throughout our club. Introduced on June 15, 2022, the NIF consists of two key documents:
Child Safeguarding Policy: This policy outlines unacceptable behaviours such as child abuse, grooming, and other forms of misconduct involving children. It also details the process for reporting concerns or allegations, and sets out clear expectations for child-safe practices, including recruitment and screening protocols. The policy meets the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and features a Child Safe Commitment Statement, as well as guidelines for best practices in our sport.
Member Protection Policy: This document explains what constitutes unacceptable behaviour, including abuse, bullying, harassment, sexual misconduct, discrimination, victimisation, and vilification.
You can access these policies on our website or by visiting Swimming Australia’s Safe Sport Framework page: National Integrity Framework | Swimming Australia.
All Flyers Swim Team members are expected to follow any child safety policies, procedures, and codes of conduct adopted by the club at all times.
As part of our commitment to safety, all Flyers Swim Team employees go through comprehensive background and screening checks in line with Swimming Australia’s Child Safeguarding Policy. Anyone—whether staff, committee member, volunteer, or official—who may have direct contact with children (in person, by phone, in writing, or electronically) must hold a valid Working With Children Check. For more details, see: Who Needs A Working With Children Check.
If any swimmer, parent, coach, or official feels they have been treated in a manner inconsistent with these policies, we encourage you to reach out. Flyers Swim Team has two designated contacts for such concerns:
