THE COACHING TEAM

THE COACHING TEAM

Great coaches don’t just build swimmers—they inspire confidence, teamwork, and a love of the sport that lasts a lifetime.

Meet the Coaches

  • Julie has been coaching with Flyers for 2.5 years, leading the Senior and Intermediate Squads at PARC. With a background in swimming and teaching, Julie brings both technical expertise and genuine care for her swimmers to every session.

    Swimming & Coaching Journey
Julie swam competitively for a few years, specialising in the 200m Individual Medley and Backstroke. Her transition into coaching began when she was invited to move from teaching to coaching — a step that combined her love of sport, competition, and mentoring young athletes.

Her proudest coaching moment to date?

“Coaching a 14-year-old boy to a 400IM Gold Medal at the National Age Championships.”

    Coaching Philosophy
Julie describes her coaching style as collaborative (and sometimes a little bossy!). She loves both the competitive side of the sport and helping kids simply enjoy being in the water.
Her favourite training set is a classic: Short Rest El Classico – 30x100s.

  • Corey has been coaching for 10 years, with 6 of those spent at Flyers. As the Lead Coach at Yawa, he works across all squads, bringing a wealth of experience, enthusiasm, and a strong belief in personal development both in and out of the pool.

    Swimming & Coaching Journey
Corey swam competitively for over a decade, specialising in Freestyle sprints. His journey in swimming began without natural talent, but through discipline, resilience, and persistence, he turned challenges into achievements — progressing from struggling in learn-to-swim to competing at state finals.

That experience shaped his passion for coaching:

“I love seeing swimmers overcome their own challenges — whether it’s qualifying for nationals or breaking 30 seconds for 50 Free after starting at 60. Being part of that journey is incredibly rewarding.”

    Coaching Philosophy
Corey describes his approach as development-focused — helping swimmers identify opportunities for growth, set both short and long-term goals, and stay consistent in their pursuit of improvement.

His core message to every swimmer:

“The more you put in — by being consistent — the easier and faster you can achieve your goals.”

    Swimming & Coaching Journey
Josh is still an active competitive swimmer himself, with his favourite event being the 50m Backstroke. Growing up surrounded by the sport, becoming a coach was a natural next step—an opportunity to share his knowledge and passion with the next generation of swimmers.

His proudest coaching moments come from the smaller wins:

“When I give feedback, work with a swimmer to understand the stroke, and then they get it—it’s the best feeling.”

    Coaching Philosophy
Josh describes his coaching style as flexible and adaptive, adjusting his approach to suit each swimmer’s learning style. He believes every swimmer has their own way of understanding and mastering technique. His go-to piece of advice?
