The Senior Squad

The Senior Squad represents the pinnacle of the Flyers Swim Team pathway, designed for our most dedicated and high-achieving athletes. Swimmers in this group consistently compete at state and national levels, demonstrating elite skills, commitment, and leadership within the club.

What to Expect

Senior Squad swimmers engage in a high-performance training environment, focusing on advanced technique, race tactics, and peak physical conditioning. Training is intensive and tailored to the individual goals of each athlete, including preparation for major championships and national events. Swimmers are expected to lead by example, support their teammates, and pursue excellence both in and out of the pool.

Who is it for?

  • Age: Typically 15 years and older

  • Entry: For swimmers who have successfully progressed from the Intermediate Squad and are consistently achieving state qualifying times or higher, with a strong commitment to national-level performance

Training Commitment

  • Attend 5–7 sessions per week at Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre (PARC) in Frankston or YAWA Squatic Centre in Rosebud

  • Focus on elite-level technique, advanced race strategies, and optimal performance in competition

  • Participate in strength and conditioning programs as prescribed by coaches

  • Develop individual race plans, set ambitious goals, and track progress with coach support

  • Demonstrate leadership, resilience, and a positive influence within the squad and club

Training Timetable

Training breaks are communicated in advance. Sessions run during school holidays, but not on public holidays.

Competitions

  • Senior Squad swimmers are expected to compete at the highest levels, including:

    • Club Championships

    • District, Metro, and State Championships

    • National qualifying meets and national championships

    • Other targeted competitions as recommended by coaches

    Swimmers in this group typically race a full range of events, with a focus on achieving and surpassing state and national qualifying times.

Equipment Needed

  • Drink bottle

  • Kickboard, fins, pull-bouy , paddles, snorkel, and all required senior squad equipment

Progression Pathway

Swimmers who:

  • Consistently attend all prescribed sessions

  • Show ongoing improvement and commitment to training and competition

  • Achieve or work towards national qualifying times

  • Demonstrate leadership and mentor younger squad members
